Camera-less

We will be posting for a spell without the benefit of pictures. You'll just have to put up with 1,000 words.

We are in the market for a new camera, and your recommendations would be appreciated. We've had good luck with our Kodak zooms (10 and 12x) and our budget is about $250 max.

Let us know what has worked for you, what to avoid, or maybe try and talk us into spending triple on an SLR. We're all ears.

Well, since I have my Nikon D50, I love and hated at the same time. It's an awesome camera, but it's also an anchor weight. It is huge, you can't just put it in your pocket. It's not portable. I was actually looking into a really good point and shoot for my going to the "Musuem" or "Park" situations. I think that DSLRs are great, but all depends your situation I guess. This is a great little camera here. Canon SD750, http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=14919

Check it out. Not the newest, but for the price, you get a great quality cam. This one is a really good cam too, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8510989&type=product&id=1186005750966

Hope that helps.

I love our SLR. This weekend we went to a water park and I took Dave's old camera (a sony cybershot that we have always loved) because we didn't want to chance ruining the Rebel. I was so preturbed because the pictures I was getting were so crappy. Once you've gone the SLR route you can never go back.

Hey we just went through this same process. We loved the idea of an SLR but we're really not professionals, although we would love good pics. However, we also decided that we liked the video feature on the smaller cameras too much to give it up. So we went with the SLR-like cameras and ended up picking out the Canon s5-is. We have loved it so far because it has a good zoom range, the pics are good, and we love the video.
